Banfi 03 Brunello cleared by authorities

In a press release issued just moments ago (3:48 p.m. EDT), Banfi Vintners has announced that Castello Banfi’s 2003 Brunello di Montalcino has been cleared for release by Siena authorities and that bottling of the 2004 vintage has begun.

Castello Banfi was one of at least 5 wineries implicated in the Siena prosecutor’s office investigation of Brunello producers. According to the statement, issued by Banfi Vinters’ Long Island, NY office, analysis showed that the wine was made from 100% Sangiovese grapes grown in Montalcino.

The statement does indicate, however, that “a small percentage of the production still has to undergo analysis for clearance.”
